USDA Conservation Spending Across the Country
Supporting America's Farmers and Ranchers in all 50 States
Notes about the Map and Data
Source of Data: USDA. State-level funding data from the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) for FY2024 and FY2023 were obtained from USDA on March 25, 2025. State-level farm bill funding and district-level funding for IRA and Farm bill funding was obtained from USDA for FY2014 through FY2024 on March 25, 2025.
State and District totals may not match due to privacy requirements in public reporting of USDA data.
These funding numbers do not include other important USDA conservation program funding included in the Inflation Reduction Act’s conservation funding, such as the Regional Conservation Partnership Program and the Agricultural Conservation Easement Program.
Funding is not adjusted for inflation.
Conservation Stewardship Program (CSP) and Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP) data for Fiscal Year 2024 Data includes number of contracts, dollars obligated, and acres contracted under the Inflation Reduction Act.
*IRA CSP and EQIP obligations include dollars included in Alternative Funding Arrangements (AFAs) which do not have acres tied with them.
Top conservation practices identified are representative and based on practices by acres from 2014 to 2023 as reported by USDA.
Polling results stem from a national National Wildlife Federation survey of 506 farmers, conducted by Trust In Food between December 6, 2024 and December 12, 2024.
Congressional Districts were reapportioned and redistricted in 2020, and implemented in 2023. As a result, district totals prior to 2023 do not reflect current district boundaries due to limitations in USDA’s publicly available data. For example, Ohio lost one district in the 2020 reapportionment. Therefore, Ohio District 16 no longer exists and is no longer reflected on the map. However, district data, for all changed or removed districts, are still reflected in the state totals for the years they existed.
Protect Ag Conservation is led by the National Wildlife Federation and is dedicated to empowering American farmers, ranchers, and forest owners to improve stewardship of their land for the next generation.
